What Are the Benefits of Juvederm?

The signs of aging – wrinkles, fine lines, hollow areas, sagging skin – are to be expected, but that doesn’t mean they’re welcome. In fact, they can make us feel less like ourselves and less confident. But with dermal fillers like Juvederm, you can turn back the clock on skin that’s aging, enjoying a renewed sense of self in skin that’s smoother and more gorgeous. To learn more about this incredible Juvederm treatment, offered here at Metabolix Wellness Center in Clearwater, FL, read on.

What Are the Benefits of Juvederm?

This astounding injectable works to replenish the skin with volume that it’s lost over time, filling out folds and wrinkles and giving the skin a more youthful appearance. It has several different products available, each serving a different purpose. This means you can enjoy a tailored experience with the type of filler you choose. For example, some work to provide more natural looks, while others can more dramatically restructure the face, improving contours and creating a more lifted look.

For people who have felt less like themselves as they’ve watched wrinkles and lines develop, it can be an incredible way to renew confidence and a sense of self. Patients also love that this treatment gives them control over how they age. It can also work excellently to correct aesthetic concerns you might have struggled with your whole life, such as thin lips or an uneven nose. Another benefit is that treatment is non-invasive, so doesn’t require any surgery, but still provides noticeable, dazzling results.

What Exactly Is Juvederm?

As mentioned above, this FDA-approved dermal filler can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. It is injected into the skin using a fine needle, and it works by filling in areas where there has been a loss of volume. It’s typically used on the face, but it can also be used to treat other areas of the body such as the hands or décolletage.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a substance that is found naturally in the body. It is a type of sugar molecule that is found in the connective tissue, and it helps to keep the skin moist and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it an excellent ingredient for keeping the skin hydrated. It’s also important in helping the body produce collagen and elastin, two important proteins that keep the skin perky and supple. This is why HA is often used in skincare products.

The problem is, as we get older, our bodies produce less and less HA. This means the skin, losing moisture, gets more coarse. Our collagen and elastin production also suffers, so the skin gets looser, drooping and folding in on itself to create wrinkles and jowls. While age and genetics are the main cause of all this, we can lose HA even faster due to factors like poor diet, weight fluctuation, drinking and smoking, sun damage, and even air pollution.

So This Treatment Gives the Body New HA?

That’s right! During this treatment, a synthetic version of HA is injected into the skin, embedded inside a gel base. The product immediately gets to work bringing water molecules to the skin’s surface, while simultaneously kickstarting the body’s production of new collagen and elastin. The skin immediately looks more hydrated and dewy, and in the weeks after, patients notice lines filling out and their skin lifting; they look younger and more sculpted. These incredible results can last for up to 18 months.

Where Can This Treatment Be Used?

This treatment is primarily used on the face, but can also be used on the décolletage and even hands to add volume. Ahead of your Juvederm treatment, you can talk us through your aesthetic concerns and we can see if this dermal filler will be appropriate to treat them. Some of the concerns it’s commonly used on include:

  • The lips
  • Nasolabial folds, AKA the lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth
  • Marionette lines, AKA the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down the chin
  • Sunken eyes & temples
  • Frown lines
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Crow’s feet

What Happens During Treatment?

An Initial Consultation

The first step is to come in for a chat with a member of our expert staff here at Metabolix Wellness Center. This will be your chance to talk us through your cosmetic concerns and goals, and we can make sure you’re a healthy, suitable candidate for treatment. We’ll then decide which type of Juvederm to use to best remedy your concerns and design a treatment plan that’s tailored specifically to you, noting details like how many units of product will be sued and where the injections will be.

Your Appointment

Treatment is performed right here in our gorgeous Clearwater office. You’ll come in with a clean face to which we will apply a topical numbing cream, ensuring your comfort throughout treatment. We’ll then make the injections, which many patients report they can’t even feel! The whole process takes about twenty minutes, then you’re free to go. Patients love that there’s no downtime required afterward, meaning they can immediately get back to work or errand running – it’s quicker and easier than getting a haircut!

Who Is a Good Candidate for Treatment?

If you’re over 18 and struggling with skin that’s lost volume, or perhaps even areas that you’ve always wished had more volume, you may be right for this treatment. It’s ideal for busy people who only have little pockets for self-care, and don’t have the weeks to take off life to heal that surgery requires. Since these skin concerns can affect anyone, we don’t prescribe one perfect age, gender, or skin tone. Some medical conditions and medications, however, will render you ineligible for treatment,

What Are Some Other Ways I Can Take Care of My Skin?

Watch What You’re Putting in Your Body

A diet rich in antioxidants helps keep your skin looking young and healthy. Antioxidants help protect your skin cells from damage caused by free radicals, which can cause wrinkles. Foods that are high in antioxidants include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Excessive drinking and smoking speed up the aging process and can cause wrinkles too. In particular, if you smoke, quitting is one of the best things you can do for your skin—and your overall health.

Work Out – But Rest, Too

Exercise is great for your body, but did you know it can be good for your skin too? Exercise gets the heart rate up and increases blood flow, which delivers oxygen to the skin and nourishes skin cells. It also helps you maintain a consistent weight, which can prevent the signs of aging. On the other end of the spectrum, getting enough sleep can also help keep your skin looking its best. Lack of sleep can cause your skin to look dull and tired, and lead to the formation of wrinkles.

Have a Great Skincare Routine

You probably know that keeping your skin moisturized helps it to look plump and hydrated, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. But having an entire routine that incorporates things like vitamin C and retinol will even better aid you in diminishing the appearance of wrinkles, as well as preventing new ones from developing. During your consultation with us, we’ll be happy to talk you through the best products you can use, or possibly even recommend a dermatologist you can speak to.

Perhaps the most important thing you should be putting on your face? A sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can damage your skin and lead to premature aging, so wearing sunscreen every day – yes, even on the days that the sun isn’t out – is one of the kindest things you can do for your skin. Wearing protective clothing will help this too. And of course, pop your sunglasses on, since crow’s feet can develop from squinting!

Are You Ready for Younger-Looking Skin?

Juvederm is a great way to improve your appearance and reduce the signs of aging. It can help you look younger and more refreshed, and can also plump up your skin to help hide wrinkles and fine lines. It is a safe and effective treatment that requires zero downtime afterward, meaning it doesn’t interfere with your daily life. If you’re ready to feel more gorgeous and yourself, come in for a consultation at Metabolix Wellness Center in Clearwater, FL, today.
